Shopping Safety
- Holiday shopping brings its own challenges. Be sure your young child is holding your hand, riding in, or holding onto your cart. Children are easily lost in crowds. This can be frightening for them and for you.
- School age children must be kept close as well. They can use their reading and math skills to compare prices and ensure a “good deal.” You will be surprised how proud they will be of their smart purchase!
- If possible, leave your children with a family member or trusted friend while you shop. It is safer for them, and more peaceful for you.
- Lastly, young children are often frightened by characters in the mall like Santa or Santa’s elves. Respect your child’s fears. Don’t force him to sit on Santa’s lap for a picture of him crying hysterically. Save your money. Next year he may feel differently.
